Revealed during TAAC

Yes, indeed. As you can well imagine, the EuroTAAC attendees
were less than enthused about a 5.2 release rather than a 6.0 release.
Macromedia's response was that, although they have had and will
continue to have ongoing development for the next release, they
have spent much of their time on market research. They put forth
a lot of effort in making their other tools more "learning enabled"
(e.g. Flash, Dreamweaver and Coursebuilder). Members of the
Aware development team were involved in doing this which obviously
detracted from direct Authorware enhancements.

Macromedia's point was that we should all be using the best tool
for the best job and that they have worked hard to enable them to
integrate with Authorware (a lot of work has been done with Flash
in this regard). Some TAAC attendees have embraced this concept
it seems.

Personally, I couldn't get on this bandwagon. I think the Authorware
team should stay focused on improving Authorware itself. I was hoping
to see AW6 and in it I was hoping to see better text support (like you
mentioned), better web deployment, and better database connectivity,
particularly over the web. I know some folks were hoping for an HTML/
Java exporter but I personally agree with Macromedia that that may
require more effort than it's worth (in other words, I'm not ready to
give up other wish list requests for that).

Macromedia confirmed that Authorware is profitable for them and
they set minds at ease (at least mine) that it's going to be around for
a long time.
