1.Open polyfighterPaintstart.max.
2.Files for this tutorial are in the \tutorials\intro_to_materials directory.
3.Press M to open the Material Editor.
4.The color of the Diffuse, Specular, and Ambient values are calculated
when the vertex color is applied. You don’t want dark colors in these
channels. To lighten the colors, copy (drag) the Specular color swatch
to the Diffuse color swatch, and then copy it to the Ambient color
swatch.
5.Select the spaceship.
6.Right-click the spaceship and choose Properties.
7.In the Display Properties group, turn on Vertex Color and Shaded.
This will display vertex color in the Viewport.
8.On the Utilities panel, choose Assign Vertex Color from the More
list.
9.On the Assign Vertex Colors rollout, turn on Mix Vertex Colors and
Calculate Shadows. Turn off Use Maps.
10.Click Assign To Selected. The vertex color is calculated and
displayed.
11.The spaceship turns a dark blue.
