Scarborough Fair是17世纪英国民歌，并不像国内普遍认为的那样是由保罗西蒙创作。目前流传至今的Scarborough Fair有若干版本，差别不大，保罗西蒙所唱的只是其中之一。
Scarborough是英国东部的一个小镇，每年8月15日起有一个近两个月的商业集会，后由于当地地面下沉而不再进行。目前的Scarborough只是一个宁静的小镇。加拿大多伦多市也有一个地区以Scarborough命名。
歌曲描写的是一个被情人抛弃的男子，试图找回情人却不果的绝望。parsley, sage, rosemary，thyme这四种药用植物在中世纪的英国都有象征意义，和今天的恋人手中的红玫瑰差不多。其中，parsley被中世纪的医生用作镇痛药物，也用于减缓精神上的痛苦；sage即鼠尾草，象征着力量；rosemary象征着忠诚、爱情和永恒的记忆，古希腊的恋人们用以表达自己的爱慕；thyme即百里香，中世纪的骑士们赴战场作战，常把thyme挂在自己的盔甲上，因此thyme常常象征着勇气。
