Big rumors abound in Macromedia land... word is the company is in dire straights and that discussions between Macromedia and Microsoft are in the works. Acquisition? Possibly... probably just Flash, DreamWeaver, and UltraDev -- and in the meanwhile, kill off MS ASP competitor (not really) ColdFusion. Who knows about FreeHand and Director... Layoffs imminent.

The rumors are true, Macromedia is indeed acquiring Microsoft. Macromedia plans to incorporate Microsoft IE, Word, and Excel into their current product lineup, and plans to scrap the rest (Outlook, Windows, etc.)
Rob Burgess already has a nice, cushy, corner office (with a tree and everything) set up for Bill Gates.
Some more info about the merger, not wanting to out-do his pal Bill Gates, Rob Burgess handing over his position to the 'people's CEO', WWF's The Rock. Also, the batallion of VPs that work for both Microsoft and Macromedia will be spliced into one, mighty, 20 foot tall uberVP.
Plans for later in the year have already been finalized for Macrosoft. In an attempt to bring in a much younger user-base, following the release of the new Star Wars movie this May, the company plans to ship a new line of youth-oriented products such as Flash Maul, Obi Wan FreeHand, and Darth Director.
